Should you use snapchat for your business?

By 2nd March 2017 No Comments

I’m going to come out and say it – I love Snapchat! The mobile photo/messaging app, which has grown tremendously over the last two or three years, has changed the way people interact through social media, so much so that Instagram, Whatsapp and Facebook are following in trend (something that is usually the other way around).

The features of Snapchat are constantly growing with added live text, chat and video calls between contacts and this could be the reason more people than ever are using the app.

But the million-dollar question – is Snapchat a good tool for your business?

In this article I will cover the main features of using Snapchat in your marketing and help you to determine whether it’s a good fit for your business.

Snapchat Stats

The most obvious place to start has to be with the demographic stats. This is arguably the most important factor when deciding if a social channel is something you should be using:

Active Daily Users: 158 million

Average number of Snaps sent each day: 2.5 billion

Percentage of Snapchat users in North America: 43%

Percentage of Snapchat users in Europe: 33%

Average number of times a user opens the app: 18 times

Most popular age group of users: 18-24yr olds (followed closely by 25-35yr olds)

With these stats, you may already be able to determine whether Snapchat is a good tool for your business. But let me help make this a little clearer…

Young Clients? Get The App.

It’s as simple as that really, if your business target audience is within the age ranges shown above, then I highly recommend using Snapchat as a resource to market with your audience.

If your audience doesn’t fit within these age groups (18-35yrs) it doesn’t mean you should abandon the app altogether. People over 35yrs are using the app but you just need to make the decision whether it’s truly worth your time.

Ask your current clients

If you have an older audience and want to know whether Snapchat will be useful, then ask your current clients whether they’re using the app also. This will be a good indication on whether you can engage with them on the app as well as other prospects.

If the verdict is that they aren’t using the app then it’s best to focus on other channels to help grow your audience and engage. As blunt as this may sound, it will save you a lot of time in the long run and allow you to try different routes for successful social media marketing.

Choosing to use Snapchat? What content to promote:

If you’re choosing to delve into the Snapchat world then here are a number of ways you can use the app to generate engagement:

Promote key events.

Running a special fitness boot camp this month, or visiting a particular expo? Document it on Snapchat and give your audience members direct access to your live event, no matter where they are!

Launching a new product or service

Using Snapchat to launch a new product/service can benefit your business and create a buzz around the whole launch. Give them short snippets of the launch and then tell them how they can learn more (via Facebook or your website etc.)

Give a Behind the Scenes Look

Giving your Snapchat users a behind the scenes look of your business and showing them how you and your employees spend your day can help add transparency and trust into your business. This is a great opportunity to show your fans how different your brand is from your competitors’.

Keep it Fun and Appealing

Keeping your content appealing is a must on any social network and that includes on Snapchat.  Snapchat followers are younger, which means you must ensure your content is vibrant and keeps on trend. There is nothing worse than having marketing that looks dated.

Test Test Test

As I always mention with marketing, testing content and strategies is crucial for success. If something doesn’t work, don’t just bin the whole idea. Tweak small sections that you think may be struggling to entice. Post content at different times and with different incentives to see which works best.

Always test your content and marketing strategy.
